Gems! If you've ever played RedPower, you're familiar with the concept of how these work. Different gems that spawn throughout the worlds and dimensions that have visual differences. Worse than diamonds and osmium, better than the majority of everything else. Gems!

Rubies, Emeralds, and Sapphire spawn below y16 in veins of 1x. They are very rare to find throughout the world, but you'll run into a decent amount of them, especially if you're frequently blast mining, you'll run into a good amount of them.
Onyx spawns in veins of 3x between y4 and y124 in the Nether, anywhere outside the range of Bedrock. You'll most commonly encounter it in Nether Dungeons, where it will often spawn in the chests alongside other items.
