Currently there’s no way to change your game mode from inside the game in singleplayer. Instead, it must be done outside of the game with an NBT editor, by editing a number in the level.dat file of your world. Step 1: Open an editor. I use a web-based editor simply called NBT Editor or webNBT, found here: irath96.github.io/webNBT/. Step 2: Find your world’s level.dat file. The easiest way is to go into the game’s Texture Packs menu, press the “Open texture pack folder” button and once the folder opens, go back to the .minecraft folder. After that, go into NFCsaves and then enter your world’s folder. Inside you’ll find level.dat. I highly recommend creating a copy of it before editing so you can restore it in case something goes wrong. Step 3: Drag the level.dat file into NBT Editor. You should see “Data” appear on the left side. Click the arrow next to it and it will display multiple things. We’re looking for the one that says “GameType”. Step 4: Double click GameType and a small window will open. The number 0 means survival mode, and the number 1 means creative. In this window, simply delete the old number and replace it with the one you want, and then press OK. Step 5: Press the Save button on the top right and it will download the new, edited level.dat. Now you just have to go back into your world's folder and replace the old file with the one you downloaded. Make sure it is named correctly. Open the game and you should see your world’s new game mode on the world selection screen.
